The drawing dutchy

I get weird around the holidays. I like them, but I also get reminded of those who are not with me and that hurts a little. So I’ll pretend I don’t care and that I am a “scrooge”. But I wanted to do a christmas themed drawing this year, whitout going overboard on the actual theme. I also wanted to test making backgrounds and underpaintings with gouache to save a bit of time.

I thought I had three weeks to complete this drawing.

But life away from my pencils took a turn on me and I had to rush back to The Netherlands, so that gave me very little time to work with, and it didn’t quite work out as planned. some of the gouache was layered too thick, so it turned out to me more painting than drawing. I also got way too much into my head because of losing my father a few weeks before. With him being my biggest inspiration, and me always signing my art with his pencils, it suddenly felt like a huge thing to acually have to complete and sign this drawing. So it’s not perfect, that is ok, none of us are really. But here she is…
